Army Suicide Prevention
This year’s theme is “Improving our soldiers’ and families’ health: A healthy force combating high risk behaviors.” Suicide Prevention is a continuum of awareness, intervention, and postvention to help save lives. Prevention refers to all efforts that build resilience, reduce stigma, and build awareness of suicide and related behaviors.
Soldier Responsibilities:
- Live up to the Army Values in caring for your buddy.
- Depend on your buddy for advice, protection, and support.
- Recognize that seeking help is a sign of strength.
- Report all concerns that a buddy may harm himself/herself.
CIO/G-6 is committed to the Army's Campaign Plan for Health Promotion, Risk Reduction, and Suicide Prevention (ACPHP) as it seeks to make rapid improvements in the Army's existing health promotion and risk reduction programs, systems, and processes with a goal of reducing suicides and improving the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the Army community. In support of the ACPHP, the CIO/G-6 Chief Data Officer is leading multiple initiatives that will better equip the Army to identify and prevent suicide attempts, saving soldiers’ lives.

Gov 2.0: Army Announces Apps for Army Competition
By J. Nicholas Hoover – September 10, 2009
The Army will soon launch a competition for all soldiers and others in the .mil domain to build new software that will help it fight wars and carry out the rest of the Army's mission, Army CIO and Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson announced Thursday at the Gov 2.0 Summit in Washington, D.C.
"We have a lot of innovation happening with the soldiers, but it's happening in pockets and in silos, and in a way that's not shared with the rest of the Army," Sorenson said. The new contest, called Apps for the Army, will make that innovation available across the military by hosting entries on Forge.mil, the Defense Information Systems Agency's open source code and software repository.
